The bright, eye-catching colours are fun and cheerful, while the airy pastels are soothing and connected to nature.

Colourful minimalism

The trend towards colourful minimalism began in 2021 and will continue in 2022. It may seem strange to a traditional minimalist, but minimalism has evolved beyond black and white colours and simple lines.

You can use colours while adhering to the “less is more” principle and maintaining the minimalist look. Whites and pastels with just a smidge of vibrant colour, lots of empty space and few details will give your products that aesthetic cleanliness that minimalism strives for.

Serif fonts

Fonts are usually categorised into two categories: serif and sans serif. The difference between the two is the presence or absence of small decorative lines, serifs, that appear at the beginning or end of letters. Serif fonts have decorative lines and give a traditional look and feel to your designs.

Serif fonts will be the most used fonts in 2022. They communicate reliability and trust while also evoking nostalgia. Satisfy, Abril Fatface and Playfair Display are some popular examples.

Eco-friendly products

Customers are becoming increasingly aware of environmental concerns and climate change. They recognise that the small decisions they make every day have a significant impact on the planet, so buying products made of sustainable or recycled materials continues to be on-trend.

Environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, cork, jute and metal have a much lower environmental impact because they are biodegradable and recyclable. Reducing waste, reusing materials and encouraging design that draws inspiration from nature will remain a priority in 2022.

Hand-drawn illustrations

Going old school with illustrations will be popular in 2022. Before the evolution of digital tools, illustrations were hand-drawn, giving products a more personal touch and making them memorable.

In a world where most brands look and feel the same, hand-drawn illustrations are an excellent way to make your brand stand out. Doodles, whimsical sketches or loosely formed shapes can create a visual identity that pops with personality and has a bit of a playful vibe.

Geometric shapes

Geometric shapes with neat lines, sharp angles and expressive colors are replacing abstract ones and will be a common trend going into 2022. They support the minimalistic design and are relatively simple from a technical point of view, but they offer unlimited possibilities.

Geometric shapes are easy to combine with images and are perfect for creating logos or highlighting key points of your design. They also help to create a professional image for your brand.

Retro effects

Everything around us is changing so quickly that many of us reflect on the past and long for the good old days when life was simpler. Incorporating nostalgia into design will result in a retro revolution in 2022.

Retro effects and elements such as visual cues and colours from the past, vintage fonts and hand-drawn illustrations elicit happy memories in customers and foster attachments to products.

Gradients

Gradients made a comeback in 2021 and are here to stay in 2022. Gradual color transitions are an excellent choice for almost any design and can make any product stand out.

Gradients are extremely adaptable. They can add depth to flat designs, create interesting backgrounds and freshen up old photographs.
