Tawnya Williams is a self-taught artist based in Aurora, Colorado. She was born in Utah where she grew up influenced largely by her father and grandmother, both whom are accomplished portrait artists. Tawnya spent her high school years dreaming about a career as an artist but put school on hold when she had her daughter right graduation. The following year she was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer and given 3 months to live. Tawnya spent the next year receiving chemotherapy and radiation, and undergoing surgeries and hospital stays. It was not until many years later that she was finally able to go to college. She knew she needed to pursue a career that would guarantee employment. She earned her B.A. in History and has worked in the education field as a special educator and social studies teacher for the last ten years.
It has only been in the last year that Tawnya has been able to focus on her art again and it is her goal to transition from teaching full-time to creating and selling art full-time. Although she is proficient with a variety of mediums and subjects, she specializes in portrait work with colored and graphite pencils. Tawnya believes that art is her gift and she is passionate about sharing it with others.
